Location

One of Western Australia’s key fruit and vegetable growing regions, the South West has a diverse and beautiful landscape — and an agricultural industry to match.

Covering an area from Yarloop and Katanning in the north to Augusta in the south and Bremer Bay in the east, this stunning region is beloved by locals and a drawcard for holidaymakers.

Margaret River
Known for

Known for its clean and green growing conditions, the South West is a big producer of dairy, as well as beef, and a huge array of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Aside from the spectacular scenery, from lush forests to majestic beaches and green valleys, the region has also developed a global reputation for the quality of its wines, particularly chardonnay and cabernet.

Tourists are drawn, too, for the fine food culture, with great restaurants and cafés, and artisan producers making everything from cheese to smoked meats.

With its natural beauty and reputation for gourmet delights, the only problem you’ll have when you visit this region is dragging yourself away. Find out where to start your food and drink adventures at Australia’s South West.

There are many ways to enjoy the pickings of the Wheatbelt, not the least of which is taking the family for a farm stay, where the kids can cuddle the animals while you enjoy the best local produce, including wines and yabbies.

The Dryandra Woodland is also an important wildlife preservation zone, home to numbats, brushtail possums and tawny frogmouths. The region is also replete with wildflowers from June  to November. To find out more, see Australia’s Golden Outback or visit the Central Wheatbelt Visitor Centre.
